Morris bands tend to be made up of a mix of
different instruments, the balance of which depends upon the tradition/type
of Morris dances being performed. Border Morris dancers are often
accompanied by big groups of musicians, often with a lot of squeeze-boxes
and percussion. Cotswold dancers, like HuMP, can be accompanied by a single
fiddle or ‘box’ player or by a mix of different instruments ranging
from concertinas (hexagonal squeeze-box), melodeons, fiddles, whistles,
drum, guitar and anything else you fancy bringing along!
RIGHT: These instruments are tricky to master. Look at the concentration on their faces at St Peter's Fête! Fancy having a go at playing in the band? Most of the band members had never played a folk instrument before they met up with HuMP and picked up the music and techniques from the other musicians or those they meet whilst dancing out. So, whatever you fancy doing or whatever instrument you fancy playing, why not bring it along and join us? We’re always looking for new musicians and are happy to offer advice and help where we can. We’d love to meet you! Get in touch via our Contact us page. Or see the HuMP Musicians' Rule Book |
